Be ready for something really good!
Be ready for something really good!
When we anticipate something happening in the future, a section of the human brain acts like an announcer that broadcasts our thoughts to other parts of the brain. This announcement is either, “Oh boy, get ready for something really good” or “Oh no, get ready for something really bad”.
When the message is, “Oh boy, get ready for something good”, something miraculous happens. Suddenly, we aggressively move forward in the expectation of receiving something of value or a reward that brings us pleasure.
When the message is, “Oh no, get ready for something bad”, we freeze up in the expectation of receiving something of no value that brings us only displeasure. We find ourselves stuck, depressed, defeated, overcome with indecision, and unable to move forward.
Why is the human brain wired in this way? Because we benefit from the fruits of optimistic thinking. These thoughts move us forward; keep our minds at ease; lower stress and improve our physical and mental health. And that my friends, is how we progress in life.
Be Well,
Dr. Pete
