Bad decisions make great stories
By 1992, the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease, an arm of the Department of Health and Human Services, showed that there was a serious health risk in the drinking water at the Marine base in Camp Lejeune North Carolina. The Marine Corps had been warned nearly a decade earlier about the dangerously high levels of benzene, which was traced to massive leaks from fuel tanks at the base. For years the Marine Corps knew the fuel farm, built in 1941, was leaking 1,500 gallons a month and yet decided to do nothing.
Bad decisions make good stories. But this is an extreme example, with serious consequences for those involved. It was made extreme – when the problem was continually ignored. If, in your practice, you discover a problem – fix it immediately! And fix it professionally. If you identify a problem with your income tax – hire a CPA with IRS experience. If you have legal problems – hire an accomplished attorney.
Ignoring the problem won’t make it go away. Make the decision now to find the problem, fix the problem, and then move on and prosper.
